Significant others and modifications to your car

Hello,

I was speaking with my wife the other day about purchasing the Dinan stage 1 for my own Birthday present. She of course replied with a NO and called me stupid.

Just wondering how many of you out there actually ask the Significant other in your life or do they even care about your mods

I'm still probably gonna do it. Do you think she'll even notice?

Single guys need not respond you're still living the dream.....

While waiting for delivery I was telling my DW how awesome the car was and how ready for mods the platform is. She told me that if I made modifications to the car it would piss her off and to get whatever mods I wanted before taking delivery of the car. Fine if that's how you want to play. Bought the M performance exhaust, Dinan cold air intake, and Dinan software upgrade the next day.

The mods I did not consult her on was the window tinting and the subwoofer that I had installed. She never knew about that until after I told her and that was even after she heard it and asked if I was happy with the bass. "Well now that you ask yes I am, those M engineers are no joke right?"

She will not notice the mod but you will. Go for it!

First time mods came up I got hit with the "Are you stupid? Why did you buy an $80k sports car only to have to add stuff to it?"

Eventually enough whining wears them down though. In fact, she just installed my LUX AEs.

Glad i'm not the only one!! Tech you said it all, she just doesn't get it. I'll probably get away with the lowering kit, its the wheels I want that could be a problem later this year.

YES it actually gets her pissed when I mention it too. You know how hard it is to buy eisenmann race exhaust and get it installed going unnoticed...

Every relationship has a cost threshold where consultation is expected, varying with how much money you make (alone or together) and how crazy you both are. For us it's about $1000. Anything under that and we don't really talk about a purchase unless the other one can give useful advice about it.

My wife has always said..."It's your money and you work hard for it". Needless to say I still don't tell her how much I spend on each mod o ask permission to order something. I couldn't hide the Dinan Exhaust, sound or her watching me install it in the garage. I told her I sold my old exhaust and put the money towards that to get the Dinan. Smaller items I'll have shipped to my office and install them when she isn't home.

Why would I discuss mods with my wife

After 27 years of being married I have had new vehicles at home for over a month before she realized that it was new

Even with this new M3 she did not see it till she was in it one night.The only time that was ever an issue when she realized my Ducati had a different sound thatn my Honda

I have found that no matter how good they have it, they always feel that you need to justify what YOU buy yet they shouldn't be questioned on what they do.
