SWS-8 2ohm OR 4ohm
Hey guys, so i decided to go for a pair of SWS-8 earthquakes for the underseats.
Heres what i have right now... Base audio 2010 system, JL Audio Cleansweep (to get flat clean signal) AMP: JL Audio XD400 / 4 Front components: Morel Hybrid Ovation II. Rear: stock (running off head unit still). underseats: stock Im in major need of THUMPY mid bass, everything sounds so echoey inside, and i know its cause the lack of midbass. Heres my question, taking into account the amp im using, and the components i have, which would be best for my setup? sws-8 4ohm or 2ohm? From what ive read, the hybrid ovation ii are 4ohm load, i have 4 channels on the amp which can run 75w x 4 @ 4ohm, or 100w x 4 @ 2 ohm. Im going to run each sws off seperate channels. (the components are already run off seperate channels too) Which would be best? |

This may or may not help you, but I run them at 4-ohms at 75 watts with my Alpine amp and they are plenty loud for me. I actually have my sensitivity turned down well below halfway, and I am running my head unit at -3 to -7 on the bass. Granted, I have a very dirty signal because of the crap-q that BMW does on the base units that you're scrubbing with your cleansweep.
I'm guessing that your JL is going to be closer to an actual 75 watts than my Alpine, and thus may be even louder/punchier. Granted, I listen to a genre closest to modern rock, so they are not overly bass heavy, but the drums and bass guitar notes sound quite nice to me. As a matter of fact, I'm not running any "real" subwoofers at all, requiring the SWS8's to fill that as well and I'm very happy with the way it sounds. I don't think that it would cut it if I listened to bass discs or rap, but caveat emptor.

Thanks a lot turbo! Really helped me out!
I would still get more power from the 2ohm though right? Or does that amp need each channel to have 4 x 2ohm load and not 2 x 4ohm and 2 x 2ohm Cheers |

I don't know if your amp can handle a split 4/2 ohm load, however if it can, then yeah your amp is going to make more power at 2-ohms than at 4-ohms.
