is this going to total my car? im making the claim tomorrow i use progressive insurance and have full coverage. Someone told me that if the damage is half the value of the car then the appraiser will claim the car totaled. what can i expect this to do to my resale value? has anyone ells on this forum collided with a deer in a m?

The whole nose will be painted, along with that passenger door.
Look at the huge chunk of plastic missing from that fender.. looks so cheap. I mean no disrespect, just saying.. |

Sorry to see this, glad you are okay. I know t sucks I hit two dear on two different ocasions in my driving life. Too bad the dear are unpredictable (what there next move is I mean). In my case it was with rented cars on business both times in Minnesota on Highway 2, lots of dear around there.
Hope all works out in the end.

i barely felt the deer when i hit it coming out of a turn, it was about 200-250lbs. the m3 is very solid and i never even came close to loosing control. im just stressing right now because i dont know how bad it is till i get it towed to a dealership. im sure my radiator is done for im getting a low coolant message. my hood is pressed into the engine but the car drove fine for the one mile trip to my house from the collision. I have pics of the deer too but im not sure they are suitable for this forum.

Glad to hear you're okay. Are you having venison for dinner tonight??
When I lived in CT, it was not uncommon for deer to wander onto the road. One decided to take a flying leap over a stone wall into the rear right side of my BMW (not an M3). The car ran fine but I had a very large dent in the rear fender. The ultimate damage (to my pocket) came to about $1.5k. The insurance took care of it - less deductible of course. What I'm trying to say, I guess is that it's impossible to tell the full damage until the adjuster/repair shop have a look. If you have full coverage, you'll be covered. Enjoy driving that rental for a few weeks. |

I wouldn't drive after hitting something hard ,especially an animal, should have got it towed back to the dealer straight from the scene. You never know how bad it could be on the inside. Glad to see you are okay, let the insurance deal with the damage because there isn't much you can do at this point. Go see a doctor regardless you feel okay or not, you don't want to take chances. Good luck and sorry for the lose of your car.

I'm glad that you are okay. Good thing the deer didn't go straight into your windshield or that would have been a different story. Don't stress to much about the car, that's fixable you are too, but only to an extent.
I love the bigger power dome mod that you have though

Also, progressive will mark this as a comprehensive claim which will cause higher quotes from progressive if you move states. This just happened to me which I thought was completely bogus. Best of luck.

Ouch. That's traumatizing to see.
When I lived in Jersey, I nailed one (not in m3) at 55mph but actively slamming on brakes. $10k damage. Yours unfortunately looks worse. My guess, ~15K min depending on what else under hood damaged. But not enuf to "total car." Resale will take a hit. No way avoiding that after the accident. No one wins. But as long as you're ok, live to drive another day. |
