Is it possible to put an e92 engine into an e46?

I've been wondering for a while if it is possible to swap out the M3 e46 v8 engine for an m3 e92 engine. They are both v8 so it seems possible.

You're shitting me...? Next he's going to say there was an inline-6 in the E30 M3, right? Tell me, do women have penises and men have vaginas?

Suspect troll here but yes the S65 will fit. But I bet if you had to ask that question here you aren't prepared to custom make engine mounts etc. and get motec or similar engine management to run it. You'll also need a E92 trans and many other parts, it would be a $$$ job.

The inline 6 engine bays of the E36 and E46 are actually pretty big since the I6 is as long as a V12. I've seen several LSX swaps, much much better bang for the buck than going for the S65. A V8 actually fits more easily than a S52, having swapped my own motor after blowing up a S50 on track I learned how tight that I6 fits in there.

I am actually curious as I have been thinking of swapping a Duramax Diesel into my own E92. It is also a V8, I figure it should be a straightforward (read: easy) swap. It's a win-win for me, I get the turbo power of the upcoming M3, torque of an 760Li, and fuel economy of an 118i. I am unsure how to modify the instrument cluster however as the Duramax has a redline of 3450RPM. I really appreciate any help someone can provide myself and JOSHYb23, thanks in advance.

If they're both v8s, why bother?

Why not the 335i engine? I heard it has more torque.
