Removing fake hood vent

I removed the rubber passenger side hood vent, the part inside the engine bay to vent the engine compartment. Just for the summer months, but I was curious if anyone else has done this. It lets out some serious heat.

Sounds like a good idea but the heavy rain will be the issue. The driver's side just runs through the intake....no water issue. Keep us posted............Phil

IDK why people think they know more than the engineers who built this car..the minimal amount of heat you let out thru the secondary vent is not worth the risk of having water get to the engine or any electricals

agree, people run on the track in 100 degrees with the hood vent in place. in street driving there is absolutely no benefit at all

When in doubt, defer to Bavarian Motor Works.

I can't figure out what everyone's bitching about. I removed mine. Excess heat in engine bay doesn't seem like the best thing to me. Why not cut a hole in the hood to vent it? Oh wait a minute.... there's already a (covered) vent!? Ding ding ding.

FYI... I've driven in the rain. Washed my car. And guess what? The sky didn't fall. There's not even any water spots anywhere in there. Basically the water is just falling down the side of the block and out. No biggie.

Another FYI... the damn thing has a cutout for water to drain through ANYWAY. Or maybe you all missed that.

You're absolutely correct. Let's go ahead and do without:

-Aftermarket exhaust systems
-SC's
-Aftermarket suspensions
-Aftermarket angel eye bulbs
-Putting an actual full size spare in the trunk
-BBS wheels
-Tunes
-etc. etc. etc.

Dumb comparision..removing a piece of rubber that has the potential to cause more damage than good and adds little to no cooling should not be considered in the same list you have here..

But on a serious note. How is removing a piece of rubber more harmful than re-tuning the electronics and valve timing??

You asked why people think they are smarter than the engineers who designed the car. I argue that that list is quite long as I've demonstrated.

Butchered? The thing pops right out. Or didn't you know?

What generally makes something ok is actually doing something and then speaking from experience.

THERE'S A SLIT IN THE "COVER" THAT ALLOWS WATER TO DO JUST THAT ANYWAY.

Hello... is this thing on?

Once again your post focuses on the most insignifcant..I think the thread speaks for itself on the consensus to do this..I have had many mods over the yrs..but I dont do things without thinking them through

I don't do things without thinking them through either. A little water isn't going to hurt the engine. (psst.. it's already getting in there.. I'm not going to do the big red word thing again). People have been steam cleaning engine bays for awhile now.

But riff raff brother... I will definitely enjoy!

I don't see what harm could occur from rain. It fills up with water and drips in now. At least it is supposed to. Mine was clogged up with debris as I discovered while washing the car recently, and was not draining.

I can see Dark_M3 getting banned soon.

Tibra1, well, under Jason's Law you fall under the "instigator" category. Therefore, BOTH BANNED!!!

This thread is just too funny.

To the OP, I personally don't care what you do with your car... you can take the entire hood off for all I care. But to be honest with you, I truly do not see any real benefits from this.
