Potential M3 Purchase coming....
Hello everyone, new guy here, Laszlo. In the market for a used M3. I have found two that "fit" my budget and tick all the right boxes. Just having an issue on which one to go with really.
One is a 2008 fully loaded with DCT,19in wheels, sunroof, Nav, Cold weather pack, with 32600 miles. I have read that the 2008 iDrive wasn't the best per say. Silver/grey interior $41950 Two is a 2009 same specs really except no cold weather pack but the car has 55260 miles on it. Interlagos Blue/black interior. $40950 My dilema is, is the newer iDrive in the 09 worth it since this particular car has 55xxx miles on it, or would you guys go with lower mileage car and just "make" do with the older iDrive system. Back in the day I had a brand new 2003 M3 withe the original SMG box and loved it even thou by todays standard its pretty pedestrian. Just sold off my 2007 Subaru STI back in April and wanting to egt into something more classy/sporty, that the boy racer/big wing look of my STI had. LOL Anyways wanting to get back into an M3 again. Thanks for any advice in advance. Hope to be rolling in a M3 again soon. |

If you like both in terms of color choices, I would opt for the one with the lower mileage, since it is a significantly lower mileage vehicle. If it was only a difference of a few thousand miles, I would say go for the '09, but not with a difference of 23,000 miles.

Yes, keep looking. M3's are constantly coming into the market. Don't settle when you're making a big purchase like this.

The first one seems like a pretty fair deal to me. I got my 6MT about 5 mos ago around that price and mileage. The 08 iDrive is not great. It's a little slow and looks dated but it get's the job done. I haven't used the 09+ iDrive. Ignorance is bliss :-D .
Second one is way too expensive for that mileage. I would only pay 1-2k more for an 09 over an 08 but that's me. PS Interlagos Blue is flippin' beautiful in person. |

Regards to the iDrive I came from a 10 335i. iDrive is awesome and appealing to the eye because of the LCD screen. Then I got an 08 M. iDrive is old but functional. I only use it to see my playlists, check vehicle status and rarely the nav. But not a deal breaker. I went with low mileage M and have enjoyed every minute in it regardless of the iDrive. Keep looking or go with the 08.

Thanks for all the responses.
I did think the the '09 was a bit much for the mileage. The iDrive on the '08 I guess really wouldn't be a deal breaker as most of you have said, but not having any kind of warranty is definitely pushing that way. I am going to take your general advise and continue looking and saving for that matter. Thanks again for all the great input/insight. Will definitely by on here reading and chatting. |
