If you need the remote reprogrammed then you will need to go to the dealer.

It's b/c you can't. Only $tealer can do it. And they'll charge 1 hr labor ($125 I think) to do it.

The remote will not lock and unlock the doors or open the trunk... To get it i have to
Use the key in the door... I changed the battery thinking it was dead ... I heard you can program it again by doing a technic without going to the dealer

If you have comfort access I'm betting that you could lick the door to unlock it.

I *think* you can just push it into the key slot and start the car. After that, it will be mated to your car.

Actually, I would like to know too. I have 2 bmws in the family and both have CA. I would like to know if it's possible to use one set of key on car A to lock/unlock the door/trunk on car B just for convienent sake. I don't need CA to work. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

While people are talking about this subject I went to my dealer to get a second key (car came with only 1) and for a CA Key they wanted $550. Too much?

I lost my key, reprogramming and the key itself set me back around $450

Seems a little high. The price of the key itself is around $435. So just whatever price they want to program it on top of that.

Would make sense, dealer rate is probably anywhere from that $115 gap to like $140, per hour of course.

Is it bad practice to get a non-CA key as my back-up? I assume if I lose my key I will eventually find it as this is normal practice for me.

You would have to verify that it would even work to do that.

Sorry to bump an old thread but figured it’s better than creating a new one. Anyone have the process to reset the key? Unlocking / locking doesn’t work but inputting into the ignition and starting the car works just fine
