High-end racing dampers are not water-souble. Road grit is present on a track the same as it is on the street, and on racing tires more crap is picked up and flung around inside the wheelwell. An annual or biannual rebuild is probably a good conservative worst case scenario maintenance plan.

That said, racing dampers are meant to be rebuilt at set intervals - typically every season or so for club level race cars, but more regularly as you go faster and spend more $$. Therefore, they are not designed for long-term (i.e. years) of use in rain, snow, salt, and other harsh elements. I looked up the TTX36 manual, and here's the recommendation: Recommended Service Intervals Racing: Every 10 hours of operation. Maximum 20 hours of operation without service and oil change. Regular street use: Every 30 000 km PS. I think the street use interval is pretty lax, considering you probably don't need all the performance of a clean damper when you are just cruising around. Having dust covers definitely help... a clean damper is a happy damper -Lex Carson. |
