Mirrors Tilt Up or Down By Themselves?
After turning my car off and back on again (or sometime while the car is off), my mirrors intermittently tilt all the way up or all the way down. Sometimes it is the drivers side and others it is the passenger side. When this happens, the seat memory does not correct as it sets some how to the all the way up or all the way down position.
I never use my second key and I don't have comfort access anyway. Anyone know what could be causing this? |

this appears to be a common problem; When you use the unlock button the mirrors perform a self check and if they are moving to a diff position then set, there is a problem. If you're car is under warranty they will replace the motor; if not, I suggest you try cleaning the contacts of the mirror motor itself as this may help and will be cheaper if you have to foot the bill.
FYI everytime I used to hit unlock my pass mirror would be in a diff spot; I just replaced the mirror motor and all is fine. Search e90 post and you'll see similar issues. |

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
I am under warranty and will be taking my car in next week. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of a quick/easy fix that I could do without taking car to the dealer. I did try a search, but didn't see anything relevant. |

I had this happen to me before. The dealer replaced the mirror motor. Apparently what it does is the motor thinks it is in a different position than it is so it is trying to correct itself when you unlock the car.
You can usually reproduce this problem by programming the seat memory using the buttons on the side of the seat. Then when you press it to move to preset memory, the mirrors will move out of position. |

Hey guys, not trying to be a plunger and bring up old sh*t but I figured I'd search and comment before starting my own thread. I noticed this started happening last night on my 08 e90 m3. I got in the car and noticed the mirrors were moved, I positioned the mirrors back into place and then noticed when I shut the car off I can watch the mirrors move themselves. Ill try messing with the seat memory after work but if that does not fix it then it sounds like mirror motors will need to be replaced?

My car does this also....i'll be driving along and notice that my passenger (only) mirror is giving me a reflection of the pavement. I'll have a look at the mirror motor.

However, have you tried resetting/re-align the mirrors? Again am not saying that this will fix the issue as is not a fix related to your issue, but you never know! See below how it's done: Originally Posted by Malek@MRF View Post Mirror Re-Alignment Procedure: Push folding mirror away from you all the way. As in push mirror toward front of car, do not fold in. I've gotten the same issue its only on the driver side and usually happens when I fold mirrors in and out after starting the car. Personally I don't really care and my car is out of warranty and of all the things I need to be spending money on that's definitely not one of the major ones I would rather just deal with it later and the fact that it doesn't happen while I'm driving and only when turning on the car in a specific situation also doesn't hurt so won't be worrying about it any time soon. Good to know I'm not the only one tho.
PS: How much would you guys think this fix is? If I took the car in or wanted to DIY. Just for reference. |

I had read a DIY on fixing this which looked pretty easy.. remove the mirror glass, un-bolt the motor, use a brillo pad to clean male ends, clean the connector with an electric contact cleaner and finish it off with dielectric grease.. There may have been a TSB as well, I would check on that
