Increase in gas consumption?

Lately I noticed an increase in my gas consumption. Driving habit hasn't change, mostly city and highway. It could be just me, but I find my self gassing up quite often. I haven't diverted from my typical routes, I even started driving conservative just to see if I may be driving too aggressive. From my recollection I use average 16 - 17 mpg, now I am lucky to get past 13 mpg. Do I need to have my Air Intake/Fuel (injectors) system check?

When's your last spark plug change? That and it could be that it's warming up and they're still using winter blend gas.

Dirty air filter will kill 2-3 mpg but its worth getting a BT tool to log fuel trims to see if your LTFT is for some reason adding more fuel than normal to compensate for something.

For example a bad O2 sensor can give bad readings to the ECU and make it think the car is running lean, so it will over-add fuel

Other things like that. Only way to tell is to log some data. Since no codes are on, dealers will not be able to do squat with a complaint like gas mileage being lower.

I would pick up the BT tool for 199 and log data, change your air filter

Assuming you are in NY and it's not warm outside you will burn through more gas during the winter time. I'd say give it a few weeks and see if it changes once you get off the winter blend/warmer weather. Or read this for tips on better MPG: http://www.treehugger.com/cars/why-y...-about-it.html

I find that various gas stations around my area seem to have differing "quality" of gas. There are some stations I have positively identified that may be selling a lower octane fuel as higher octane, and I know this because even though I am putting 91 in, my car burns through it much faster than it would 91 from other stations that I know and trust. Therefore, I think, not all stations are treated as equal.

Like others have said, it could be something with the car, so definitely check those, but it could also be something environmental (weather, too). Just sayin...

Good point ... now that I am retired I canceled the second cell phone (donated all my old cell phones to Africa) and reduced my iPhone plan to a $20- per month plan.
