As I recall it will only remember calls made/received in the car. The iDrive will not download calls made/received on the phone outside of the car.

My X3 pulls down all information from my iPhone? I did make a call from the car and it does not remember the information.

I have the same issue. It's a feature I miss since it worked perfectly with my iPhone 4.
For some reason my car doesn't list any recent calls or redials. However, my gf's iPhone 5 does...

I can't get it to load my phone book, but it does update my inbound and outbound calls

Make sure there are no special characters or smiles set to any of your contacts. That will keep it from loading your phone book

I have no issues with iPhone 5 on the ///3 or the X3. Even the calls received outside the car are listed under received calls. Perfecto.

That's not correct. My iDrive displays missed calls from few days ago or whatever is on my iPhone 5.
