Locked inside car?

Wanted to ask you guys if this is normal. I have owned my M3 for 2 years but never noticed this until today.

If someone is in the car and I lock it from the outside using the key fob then they cannot get out of the car by pulling the handle. Normally it takes a simple double pull to get out of the car when locked but if I lock it with the key fob this is not the case. This seems like a safety issue?

The only mod I have that could have an effect is the macht schnell EDC error canceller, but this shouldn't cause an issue.

Interestingly, my friends and I were talking about this issue last night. If you lock your car either with the remote or from the inside, you CAN NOT unlock it unless with remote or BMW Assist. Regardless if your second remote is in the car. Most Japanese cars are not able to lock doors with the remote (your spous's extra key etc)inside the car. Althought BMW call this an anti theft feature, IMO, this is one safety issue they need to reconsider. I think Coding will help with this.

Funny you mention this as I was just reading a news article today over at the ISF forums about a 14 y/o girl who died inside when she couldn't unlock the doors.

What about the lock/unlock button on the center dash, have you tried this?

Yeah it worked but I think I had to hit it twice to unlock the passenger door.

Either this person was too stupid to check her surroundings and witness the unlock/lock button on the dash or there really was a malfunction. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the first.

Please have some sympathy on the person who lost her family in the incident.

I do have sympathy, I am just stating one of the possibilities. Sorry for being a bit rough. I tend to be that way.

Nice thread guy!
Made the thread to make sure my car is operating as designed since my warranty expires this Thursday. You're just cluttering up my thread with a bunch of useless bullshit. Not sure why?

I guess ill test it out for myself on a coworkers car tomm to be sure.

It is you who is cluttering the forum with this non sense, especially after you stated that you can get out of the car by pushing the damn unlock button from inside........

Next time hit the search button instead of starting a pointless topic.

I did search. Google and the forums. Didnt find anything specific to answer my question. Although I would very much like you to prove me wrong and link me to a thread where this has been discussed before.

The fact that I can get out of the car by using the central unlock button is irrelevant. Did you even read my post? I want to confirm its normal for the double pull unlock feature not to work if the car is locked with the remote.

Like I said hopefully I will be able to intercept a coworker tomorrow and test. Figured asking on the forums would be a lot easier.

I tested this out on two of my coworkers cars and in each case I could open the door with a double pull of the handle when I was locked inside using the remote. Unless there is a setting somewhere I am missing it looks like something is broken on my car. Can anyone confirm?
