CiC retrofit - repinning fail
hopefully this is the right sub-forum for this thread. here goes...
so I bought a retrofit kit a few weeks back and finally had the time to sit down and attempt the install. during the install, one of the steps required re-pinning four wires from the power cable from the original display to fit the new display's connector. three of the wires came out as expected and then the last one just would not slide out and after some fiddling, it broke. here is a pic of what I'm talking about: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/m/d/190.png its either 1, 3, or 5...not exactly sure which one it is that was on that power plug wire that I broke. since the part is clearly a replaceable part that I can order, I have two questions. 1) how do I pinch or crimp the thing on the wire once I order this replacement part? 2) when I tried inserting the three wires that slid out easily into the new connector, it wouldn't fit. I also noticed the new connector I received has 8 slots vs 6 slots in the connector pictured in the walkthrough I am using. this connector fits in the display I received though so i'm not too concerned, but my old wires not fitting in this new connector does concern me. any ideas there? I have an 08 e92 m3 btw. thanks for any guidance or advice! |

the wires should look like this. THe connector to the CID for CIC retrofit screen is a 8 pin connector which is correct...If the wires you extracted doesn't fit correctly into the new connector, you probably have the wire turned upside down or inserted them sideways, retry with wire facing up or the other direction as it should go in only one way nice and smoothly as you will here a noticeable click when pushed all the way in

The part number I was given is Part #61136954526. Does this sound familiar? I can get it locally I'm hoping. How did you splice the two pieces. I have been told the been is a solder splice.

We have the pins in stock if you need them. Best thing to do is to cut the wire and solder a new wire on with a factory crimp job, otherwise one wire will be slightly shorter.

No worries. I've been able to finish the connection. All is good with the wires I was able to find.
Thanks.
