Thats weird. A friend has it on his Audi, I know BMW have it on some of their models. I think it is really handy when you have your hands full.

I would guess it is because of the size and weight of the tailgate. If you have that feature on a 3 or 5 series when the trunk opens it is just a "pop" and a very light parts goes up. On the X5 it is a very heavy part and you need to make sure it won't hit a wall or a low ceiling in some garages. You even have an options to adjust how high the tailgate will open. Again, that is my guess on why it is not offered on the X5.

I have it on my 3 series...it's a bit of a weird option as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...especially when your hands are full...it doesn't...hehe
I did not have it on my X3 which I've recently sold...don't think it was an option that I missed on my X3. |

By the way, does this option come on the X5s?

^ Foot thing, not an option.
^ opening by touching exterior trunk button is only if you have Comfort Access. Also, FOB will not close trunk but inside vehicle you can. Even with the various auto openings it is only for the top portion of trunk. So if your hands are full and you have a heavy you need to either place the load on the ground or lift high enough over the lower portion. |

Without Comfort Access, I believe you have to unlock the car with the key fob before being able to open the trunk with the button. |

Recently, someone raised the issue of trunk closure with fob.
Mine does not close with FOB. Quick Reference guide. P46 Appendix , it provides four updates to the Owners Manual. #3, "Closing the automatic tailgate. Contrary to the description in the Quick Reference Guide of the Integrated Owners Manual, please observe the following: The automatic tailgate cannot be closed with the remote control." |

Very surprised ... I have the "shake your foot" option on my '14 550xi ... would have expected to have it on my '14 X5 35i ... kinda bummed ... would make most sense on an SUV to have this feature.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread, but I was looking in the documentation for my 2015 F15, and the convenience tailgate lift was explicitly mentioned as a feature with the Comfort Access option! Its listed in the Quick Reference guide for the 2015 X5. The directions are to stand in front of the BMW logo and kick forward. Sadly, it didn't work. Why would they put it in the documentation if it's not included?

The following have it: X3, X4, X6. r33 is looking at the parts to see if he can install. I believe parts are under $100. See my post #16 for the diagrams. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=812682 Wiring details post #30 courtesy of other members.
