Fold Down 60/40 Rear Seats?

In the grand scheme of things, this may seem like a mundane question, but without going into detail as to why, it's a show stopper depending on answer.

All available data states "folding rear seats for 60/40 bench split" or something close to that. Does that mean both seats fold flat (as audi does) to significantly increase storage, or just somehow accomplish a 60/40 bench? if anyone knows the answer I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

If they're anything like the E92 M3 rear seats, then they can both be folded down flat. The reason it's 60/40 is that one seat includes the center arm set as part of the area that folds down.

Hope that answers your question.

I have an M3 coupe now and it has 60/40 rear seats. The fold mostly flat with a slight sloping incline. I found it incredible useful in moving to my current house. There is a slight narrowing at the opening but the space is seamlessly opened with only that slight slope that I mentioned

thanks...

I've been primarily a Porsche/audi guy (10 911's and 4 audi 4 series including a b7 rs4) and always enjoyed the practicality of the audis. i'm an avid cyclist and fitting a bike inside the car with minimal fuss is paramount. i'm selling my 997 C4S and was about to put a deposit on an audi RS5. it's a bit pricey ($80K with a couple of requisite options) and the B8 5 series is at the end of life so will be dated as soon the B9 5 series is introduced. the new M4 realistically bridges the gap closer between sports car (911) and sports saloon being lighter, rear drive, etc. i'm shocked at the general anti BMW sentiment out there, though. everyone mocks the possibility of me buying a BMW, though i think model specific, the M4 meets my needs best. any 911 drivers here who also drive BMWs?

The M3/4 are eminently practical. I have carried 4 wheels/tires in my '08 coupe and a bike is easy with one wheel off. If you can't own 3-4 cars, it's a great one with few compromises.

being able to easily stow bikes is also a concern for me. if you look at some of the F80 pictures, you can see the four attach points for the roof rack system. i have it on my current e90 330i, and its pretty easy to throw bikes up top. both thule and yakima make racks that will attach, or you can use the BMW base rack w/ thule/yakima attachments.

i also have the 60/40 folding seats, and i can fit my Nomad inside w/o the front wheel, and still raise the 40 portion of the split, but i prefer using the roof rack. it's held secure even on some of the rougher roads near soquel demo forest. if you are loading road bikes, which are smaller and cleaner, it should be no issue.

In Europe 4 series default is a folding flat 60:40 rear seat (good enough for me). There is an option for 40:20:40 or similar folding too.

Fold down rear seat?

This is a bit of a strange question, but after watching the latest videos, it seems as though the back seat of both the M3 & M4 don't have a fold down rear arm rest - can anyone confirm this? This then got me thinking about whether or not the rear seat folds down (a much more important question). And there's also nothing said about it in the Canadian order guide.

I can see this possibly being excluded given what has been said about lighter weight seats but that would be quite a disappointment.

I looked through the UK and Canada option lists. There is no mentioning of folding rear seats. Logically F80 and F82 should follow what F30 and F32.

Haha! Good point. My F30 sedan has been as equally useful as my '13 X5 before it. I've shoved a lot into that car.

Ya know, now that you mention that...........yes! I never really looked at the design aesthetic from that perspective, but you make a great point. Well done BMW!

If the indents are any deeper, your knees would be right under the front passenger's arm pits. Now keep that image in your head...

Yes, from the military price list posted as standard feature, "Split Folding Rear Seats"

I can confirm that both the M3 and M4 on display at the Montreal auto show had 60/40 split folding rear seats. I folded them down myself on both cars to have a look at the cargo area.

I also like that feature for the trips to Home Depot, antique shopping or to fit my mountain bike .
