Nav difference between 5 series and 3
I just had a loaner 528xi that was a 2011. My e90 is a 2011 and sure the two nav systems are different (screen size to start) but the maps on the 5er had much more information. Specifically the traffic info was much richer and covered more of the streets. Is there a way to upgrade the core operating system of the CIC to get this richer view?
Honestly with what that screen showed it was nearly as good as google maps and all done over the air without a data connection (using the regular FM based system BMW uses). I've updated my maps to 2013 already, but not sure if it's even possible to update the core iDrive software and nav system. FWIW - if it's not available off the cuff, perhaps some of you retrofitters can figure this out, I'm sure there's a huge market for it once people see what's possible. |

Check the first post of my map update thread at the bottom. What did the main screen look like out of those images. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=901284 |

Thanks for chiming in - it was the middle one. Same base layout as what I have on my CIC. That's why I'm wondering if it's possible.
The maps had an additional view - I don't recall the name, but it was a map that took out much detail from the view and highlighted the green/yellow/red road conditions so that was the primary part of the view. It was great to throw that up on the smaller portion of the screen while using the regular map view on the right/bigger side of the screen. Really hope this is possible. And yes it was a 2011 528xi. |
