Who is NOT buying the new M3/M4?

For the sake of posterity, I'd like to know who will not be buying the F8X M3/M4. It will be interesting to see how many of these members ultimately end up with the newer M3/M4 despite all of the lambasting they do, and the vitriol they spew in all of the threads because the car is a turbo I6, sounds like a Craftsman lawn mower, etc. I also figured that this would be an excellent thread to place negative rants about the car instead of disrupting constructive discussions between people genuinely interested in, or intrigued by, the car (..and it'll keep mkoesel and ybbiz34 from having to clean up so much nonsense ).

You could do a search of the e92 m3 forums to get an idea of the future numbers. It's interesting to see peoples views (hate\love), on E9x M's from way back when.

Might even recognize some of the names...

I actually did that a few months ago. I was around back then, so I remember many of the discussions.

I may be getting an X5. My lease is up in early August and I hate the thought of the poor deal I would get on the M3. I will likely get one in 3.5 years.

You wouldn't really count. Waiting until you can get a good deal on the car is called 'smart business sense'. I was referring to those who stated that they will not buy the car because of some subjectively negative characteristic or because of the way the 'M division is diversifying'.

There are a few notables that better place their names in this thread the way they hate on the car in every other thread.

You and I both. Hell, I'm actually a bit perturbed at the fact that I'm going to have to strip this damn 335i. I'm not looking forward to it. Something told me to stop at wheels and a drop, but nooooooooooooooo..........I'm hard headed. Now I'm in the same position that I was in with the '13 X5 after doing that X5M front conversion. Money wasted!!!!!!!!!

Put me down as:

A) Disappointed in the move to a non-bespoke I6TT over an NA V8.
B) Hugely disappointed by the need for active sound.
C) Hugely disappointed by exhaust note.
D) Strongly impressed by everything else.
E) Having a strong preference of the F80 over the F82.
F) Having no plans to make any purchasing decision until reviews come out.
G) If reviews are favorable, having no plans to buy until the introduction of the LCI and ZCP in ~20-22 months.

Edit: And H) I hate the shape of the exhaust tips. They look so pedestrian. Between the note and the shape, it seems like BMW really wants people to spring extra for the MPE.

Well, I will not be buying one at the outset. I have a 2013 335ix M-sport with the PPK and an Akrapovic exhaust. If I hadn't just bought one, I would have my name on the list. I need to keep the current ride for at least two more years. I mean, I love my current ride - best car I ever owned. But that M3 sure tugs at the heart strings. Kind of wish I had waited. Anyway, I will look at the reviews, owner's experience and maybe get one when we have a mid-cycle refresh. If my investments perform well, maybe earlier. But it seems that the late bull market is weakening.

I'm on the fence at this point. #1 spot at my dealer but I'm just not too hot on the colors at this point. I do wish ZCP was available as well.

Count me in as one posting many negative comments about the new M3/4. That being said, I try to be very objective, fact based and scientific in my ramblings.

I'm leaning heavily against a purchase but over time I am warming up a bit to the remote possibility of a YMB M3 sedan. The competition looks way better this time around (compared to 2007-2009 time frame). I'll certainly wait to read some reviews and comparo tests, drive one and continue to evaluate.

I was quite active here on this forum at the time the E92 M3 was being released. Yes there were haters then too but the overall level of discontent was significantly lower then as compared to now. I mean come on, how hard is it to get excited about more cylinders, more power, more torque and a significantly higher redline? Despite those grumbling back then I believe the discontent over the engine was more limited to strict traditionalists as opposed to enthusiasts. Of course the damnation of the car as porky/porked out/bloated/portly/etc. came from many perspectives. That is quite different this time around. There are legitimate technical reasons for the discontent that have an impact on the character and enjoyment of the car. No one is disputing that the new cars will put a severe beating on the current one in any contest but as we all know (even if only deep down and subconsciously) car buying is most often a highly emotional decision.

I really think it will be a fantastic car. I've been going back and forth but need to know I can disable the automatic rev-matching feature on the 6MT. I'm also waiting on more info from the upcoming M2 before I decide. If the M2 is around 3100 lbs and close to 380-400 HP without mandatory auto rev-matching I might just wait.

Rev matching is disabled in Sport + mode.

I know my car is just the N20, but Sport + doesn't really add anything extra as far as power goes. It just makes the steering tighter, engages dynamic traction mode, and maintains a higher rev point with the engine. I would imagine that the new M3/M4 would be similar

Well said. No way I'm getting one before LCI.

Agreed.
Beside, we could bolt on a used blower to the S65 for cheap, and have a true BEAST in 2 years.
Now if we could just get some definitely answers regarding those damn bearings...
