I have a production number, but want to change from sDrive to 35d - Impossible?

Hello BMW Experts -

I put my order in for an sDrive on 1/10 and was immediately assigned a production number. When I check my status, it still says that it's "processing my order" (just like it has for the past three weeks), so I'm pretty sure they haven't started making it.

After much consideration (and finding a few coins between the couch cushions), I'm having "buyer's remorse" before the car is even built and would like to upgrade to an xDrive (ideally 35d, but that's not mandatory).

My CA tells me that he can't do this without changing my production number and this will delay my order for months - I see no reason for him to be anything but honest, but this really surprises me and I wanted to as you guys for your perspective.

Thank You for all the help you provided by posting such great information on this forum!

Thanks, doug.

I think your CA is right. You can still change the other options at this point, but the engine & drive combination forms the fundamental model.

s35i = base model 14XO
x35i = base model 14XG
x35d = base model 14XI
x50i = base model 14XJ.

I think when they assign the production number, it is predicated on a defined base model at the same time.

Agreed, only option is cancel and re-order. Its better than not being happy with something that you don't want. As for months I don't agree, could be a month or so extra but Months no way.

I guess all that said, a delay of "months" seems overboard, though it is dependent on each dealer's available allocations. Maybe your dealer already has a stack of 14XI orders for few allocations. Changing dealers might help the situation. Like rganguly, I think the highest order priority is being happy with what you are paying for even if that means extra time. Your "buyer's remorse" would be even higher at the end of delivery day for what you didn't really want.

Agreed- in hindsight, you won't remember the wait, but you'll certainly remember that you ordered the wrong car.

My brother recently got his new M5 and he just wanted to check my X5 config and price at his dealership in NJ. The price was a lot higher and there was no more allocation available at his dealership. So waiting a couple of months could be true.

you can cancel and re order. they should have separate and available allocations for the D for you to order. He probably just doesnt want to.
