M3 surf racks

So my truck finally died and I need to use the M3 to get to the surf until I can get another support vehicle. Who has surf racks on their M3 and which one is the best looking but still functional?

what size board? If you have an e92 the seats fold down.. Put it in the car.
I have an e90 w/ non folding seats, but sill can fit shortbaords in the car with the passenger seat leaned all the way back.

couldn't do it, although I transfer boards around with the seats down a lot. Doesn't help that I didn't quite think through deleting all keyholes so there's no way to open the car without the key FOB... which doesn't like water much last I heard.

I agree if you fold down the rear seats it should fit fine with anything under 6'8".

If I have passengers I usually have to throw on the BMW factory racks they work perfectly as they install through the factory ports on the roof.

Dammit I miss living/surfing in Hawaii. But I would never take my M3. I had a beat Accord i used to leave unlocked. Mostly at Aligators/Leftovers near Chuns and Wiamea.

I have an E90 M3 which I don't usually use to take surfing but when I do, I'm lucky enough to live very close to the water so I just use soft racks. No problems at all.

What my girlfriend does when she surfs is vacuum sealing her key then putting it in a "ziploc" pouch that she wears on her that has her key fob, some cash and her ID/debit card. She's been surfing with that method for the last few years and hasn't had any issues. Now that we live in AZ, I don't know when she'll go surfing next, so I don't think I have to worry about her asking me to transport her board, lol.

Opportunity. I have a company with 230 people here in SoCal - so far its going very well. Hope to retire in a couple years (in my 40's) and buy another house back on O'ahu and surf everyday.

I've never had a problem doing exactly this. Unfortunately, none of my cars have old school keys without chips in them so if I'm surfing and don't have my wife with me, I put my key in a ziploc bag and then in my boardshorts or a small internal pocket I have on my wetsuits. I normally double bag the keys but have, on occassion, only had one bag. Never been a problem.. yet

You know the BMW key fob has the physical key that can be removed and can get wet. I keep that in a wetsuit pocket and don't have to worry about a ziplock or anything like that.

If you leave the fob in the car wont people be able to unlock and get in to your car?

Not if you use the physical key to lock to door. I tested it out because I thought the same as you did. It wouldn't open even with the FOB in there and I have comfort access.

By the way what breaks are you going to?

Always been a dream of mine to surf. Grew up skating and snow boarding, but have never lived anywhere near the ocean. I'm very jealous of y'all.

Actually, I didn't know that but to be honest, I am going to bet that the ziploc baggy is faster/easier than taking the key fob apart, no?

Good tip though. I rarely take the BMW when I surf but I'll have to check this out.

Vacation is calling you...

I'm part Hawaiian so one could argue it's in my blood. I grew up skating, boogie boarding and long boarding but did quite a bit of snowboarding before I was married. Each have their own respective high points but all are great.

I find the water therapeutic and will, from time to time, just go out to paddle around. Even if it's flat. Nothing seems to relieve stress and get me "centered" (as silly as that might sound) as being in the water.

press the button and the key comes out of the fob; nothing comes apart.

This is for when you valet the car, or something similar. It let's you lock the glove box and take the key so no one can get in it

I first learned of Great Lake surfing when I got Step Into Liquid. Great movie you should check it out. Here's some info on surfing near you:

Key comes out of fob in 0.5 seconds
