Driving before buying?!?
Hey guys,
I still have not placed any order for the M4. Call me old school, but I do not purchase cars unless I get to drive them first. Seems a lot of people on this forum are quite confident with their purchase. I have no doubt it will be a great car, but anyone in the same shoes? MAC |

I purchased both my E46 and E92 ///M3s without test driving them and I was not disappointed.

you can order the car and test drive it when it arrives. Unless your dealership doesn't do refundable deposits, you don't have to purchase the car as soon as you order it

This will be my third M3. I have zero doubt whatsoever that I will love it. There has never been a poor M3!!

The problem with a test drive is the break in period, unless you find a dealer that will let you dog one that you don't plan on buying. I haven't ran into a dealer that supports that yet, but there may be some.

I am where I am now. I will undoubtedly test drive not only the F80, but its competitors as well, before I make any decisions.

I've not driven my last 2 M cars before buying, and I won't drive this one either.
That worked out great for the '08 E93; so-so for the '08 E60, which is much more truck-like than I expected. It's just - big! I've also bought other cars without driving them, and if I trust the reviews, it's a very low-risk proposition. For those of us who are lust-filled and simply must have the car before it's test-drive-able, we take the risk. For me, it's worked out quite well. Except for that M5.

Bought a car before seeing or driving it once before. BIG mistake and ended up getting rid of it a month latter. BUT it wasn't a BMW.
Will probably end up getting a M4 after seeing and driving my dealers launch M4. I'm on my dealers allocation slot for a latter build so in no big rush as my 335is is quite nice too. |

For me, the problem isn't test driving - I'm sure it will be great. The problem is with buying a first-year model with a new engine, etc. It would still be ok if I was going to lease it, but lease deals aren't good on the M3/M4. I don't want to actually buy a first-year model.

I'm the same, NEVER, but BMW's reputation gives a feeling of comfortability so for me, not worried about it. It's like a new sport bike, no way you can test ride it from a dealer in most cases, you just trust that this bike is as good or better then the last one and they always are. Definitely a roll of the dice but only just.

I never buy first year models and know the car before I buy. I'm in no rush sitting nice with my current ride. I want to see what sort of ZCP or Edition models surface down the road. It's nice to have options, first year models can be problematic and limited on options. I understand the itch though.

I bought my Nissan GTR with no test drive, and that was the first car I bought with no test drive. Or rather, after I signed the paperwork the dealer said let's test drive it (ha!).
Since we are getting the first ones on launch day, I think if I really didn't like the car then I could just sell it because the allocations are limited. Either way, I bought 3 BMWs last year and I just like the way they drive so I'm sure I'll be pleased (obviously since my order is in). There is no rush for you or any of us to get the car without test driving. If it makes you uncomfortable, then wait. Worst case is it will take 6 months for the hype to die down. Just stay off of this forum and you'll forget about it, but the more I'm on this forum, the more I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY CAR! TORTURE!!! |
