On a 2008 M3, is the rear trunk supposed to open on remote trunk unlock?

Just curious if the struts are worn or if this is by design.

When I click the unlock button, it unlocks a-ok, but doesnt actually "pop open".

Is this by design or worn struts?

this gives me the idea to patent a device that has a universal fitment for all vehicles (BMW, Honda, etc). What it does: opens the trunk when you swipe your foot underneath the rear diffuser/muffler... for vehicles that dont already come equipped with it.
