How Many Request No Detailing On Their M3/M4?

I was just wondering how many members here, ask their dealers to not wash their cars and not to remove any stickers or packaging?

What is the reasoning behind this and is it a pain to remove all the plastic yourself?

I think I'm gonna ask them not to spray that thick, tar, gunky crap on the tires that always gets on the wheels and is a PITA to get off. That's about it.

I have requested no wash or detail. This is because dealers commonly will mar and add swirl marks to the paint with their piss poor washing techniques. Many members will perform a full new car detail / paint correction upon delivery; some do this themselves while others will hire a quality detailer.

Removing the plastic is like removing the film from a new phone's screen, just a bit stretchier.

I generally say no to this stuff, I just have a really good detailer and I'm particular about who details my car. I'd rather have my guy do it.

Dealer is forbidden from washing the car ever upon delivery. I do not even want anyone to drive it to get gas and just ask for an additional $50 credit to final agreed upon price. I will drive the car straight to my detailer for a comprehensive treatment that will not only include detailing but also 3m Paint Protective Film on Bumper, Hood, Side Mirrors, 35% Crystalline 3M Tint All around, and Painting my Calipers to match my SO Interior. Should take about 1.5 days to complete and should restore the car after coming from ED trip in June.

+1.

I do all of my detailing myself.

Here is my M3 literally 10 mins after being off loaded from the truck. White hides the dirt quite well but it was quite dirty.

Given the fact that it was ED (which they know what they are doing at Welt) the plastic was already removed but my dealer did not touch the car at all besides safety check.

Yeah, who is your guy Suave?

I always ask my dealer not to prep my cars upon delivery.
Even when getting service, I always write on the order: Please Do Not Wash

Suave, what kind of cost are you looking at for the caliper job?

They are as anal as we are about our cars and work on exotics/German cars every week. They also will gladly work to use any special request products for detailing that either you provide or they order for use on your car. Website has many examples of work and price lists. Worth the drive in my opinion.

Its actually very straightforward process since they do not have to remove the caliper. Check out the work they did on a cayman with the Caliper.

http://www.sunandshade.net/featured-cayman.html
About $100 per wheel I believe is rough estimate but they will give me a firm price once they see the car. They also install / paint any grills or other custom pieces. They are attached to a big body shop/tire center so they have resources to do work.

we get about 50/50 request for wash or no wash. I always enjoy taking off all the plastic etc.. and washing the car at the dealership each time when I get my new rides. Its fun and always adds to the experience for me

I placed my order today, and opted for PCD delivery. Anybody know how that works as far as wash/detail? I assume since it's the performance center they do a better job and are more careful than a typical dealer?

When I bought my Corvette I did Corvette Museum Delivery, and it was very nicely detailed when I picked it up.

I just requested no wash, no inspection ride. Only thing the tech is to do is wake up the cars computer and hand me the keys.. I even told my guy not to gas it. I just don't want anyone driving it except for me.

I will have fun washing it myself.

I can understand asking the dealer not to wash the car and not to test drive it or fill it up with gas, but why is it an issue if they removed the plastics from the interior etc?

I want to unwrap it like a present. I will have fun doing it. Just a personal thing. I have never done it before, so it will be a nice feeling for me knowing no one has messed with it. Fresh from the factory kind of feeling.

I'll let the dealer do whatever they need to do. I trust my dealer.

Furthermore, it's just a car. And a mass-produced one at that. To each their own though!

Yeah, I'm not too anal. No front LP bracket. I'll get waxed by my guy a few days after receipt.

I did this with my 2011 E90 M3. I advised the dealer (who I like very much) not to do any new car preparation except what is necessary mechanically (remove shipping blocks from suspension and other programming requirements) and check for any obvious shipping damage. No wash or removal of interior protection etc.

I also removed from the car, the front license plate mounting bracket to ensure it wasn't installed by mistake.

I then drove it directly to my detailer (Unique Car Care:http://www.uccboston.com/) and had them clean the car and prepare it for the VentureShield front end wrap. Here is a link to show you what was done and the outcome: http://www.detailingbliss.com/topic/...all/?hl=unique There are many pictures here of the detailed process and finished product. I can say confidently that the paint condition, shine and depth were superior to other new M3s I saw at that time. To me it was worth the effort and expense. In fact it still looks great today and most folks rarely even notice the front-end wrap!
