Question Colour choice - torn between YMB and MG

Hi all, I m new to this forum, and from Australia
Put down my order for M3 last night.
But yet to decide the colour.
I m so torn between YMB and MG.
Will have black wheel and CFR, but not sure about the colour.
YMB, I originally chose this colour, but more I've seen, the lighter/brighter it seems (especially under the sun), more like a baby blue, however, it makes the wheel & CFR stands out.
MG, on the other hand, very safe and mean, however, looks a bit dark, and doesn't contrast well with black wheels and CFR.
I've got possibly 2 weeks to finalise for July production, or wait another month for August.
So, should I be stand out with YMB or safe "old school" with MG???

I too was worried about MG contrast... I've seen some photos where the CFR still seems to pop very nicely, but others where it doesnt. I ruled out YMB due to the constant prodding I'd get over the smurfmobile (early comment made by the lady when I was first quoting it out). Almost switched to SO, but then the orange part was too much for me, couldn't find the balls to do it and settled for the interior. Recently I'd been thinking about a last minute change to AY, but I want to keep that SO interior (definitely dont have the balls for that combo) ... so MG seems the best bet for me.

There was a french review of a MG M4 with SO interior recently. The video quality is decent, and there are a couple moments where you can't help but go "dayum dayum DAYUM" - or maybe that's just me since I'm committed to the color

no matter what route you go, as many have said, this car is sure to be a beauty

If you're even considering YMB I'd sy you'd be disappointed with MG as it's a regular series-car color and will blend in with the road. I'm getting MG as I want it to look more safe/boring, but in your position I'd go with the blue as I think the color looks great and M has a long tradition with unique blues.

My two cents: The dark wheels look great on the lighter colors while the lighter wheels look better on the darker colors. The brake option you will go with (Yellow v blue) should also be considered among the variables in this tough decision.

Thanks all, I will have blue brake (non CCB) in my black wheels.
When I put in my order last night, the sales took me to a MG F30 to have a look, and mentioned that it is a very nice mean colour, however, it is like any other ordinary F30 colour or at least they looks the same for people know nothing much on bimmer.
Then he took me to a M6 (Monte blue?) with CFR, and explain that there are specific M colour and YMB is one of them, but be aware it will be very light.
(M3/M4 not yet launch in Australia, not until mid-July at least, so cannot see YMB in person)
I asked his opinion, he would go for YMB, given it is designed for F80/83 and used as a launch colour for most countries.

I really like YMB. It doesn't work on a lot of cars, but I think it looks great on the M3 and even the M4. You'll have lots of opportunities to get a black, gray, silver, or white cars in the future but very few to get one in YMB. I don't want to pass up this opportunity.

I'm a huge racing fan and there's a lot of history behind light blue paint schemes. In particular, YMB reminds me of the blue from the Gulf Racing livery which is one of my favorites. I'm almost certainly going to get YMB unless I can somehow get Santorini blue for less than 5k. Like a lot of iconic colors, it's polarizing. There are going to be a lot of people who hate it, but you're also going to have a lot of enthusiasts who love it.

Take a look at these pictures showing both MG and YMB. These are the most flattering pictures of MG on an M3 I have seen so far, it looks great.

For me at least, the YMB will always draw the eye being such an interesting and complex color. The MG looks very nice but doesn't match the curves or nature of the M3. That being said, you can't go wrong either way. I'm currently debating YMB vs AW and while my head is saying AW is the sensible choice, I think YMB really adds something to the car. If you don't mind a little extra attention, I say YMB is the way to go.

Thanks again, agree YMB will definitely draw much more attention than MG on the road.
As the light colour really stand out. But at the same time, will need to be brave to go with the colour. Age may also be a factor (in mid 30's, so still OK I think)

Just one more, the sales did mention to me, YMB may hold up resale value, few years down the track, as he said there will be quite a lot of MG colour cars on 2nd market, whereas, YMB will be rare, and as a once-off M colour.

Yeah, it's possible. I can't tell either, but in real life Singapore Grey has a slight blue tint that I'm not seeing in that picture. It might just be the lighting/processing.

Definitely. Be brave (I'm mid-20s, so maybe it's easier). You're absolutely right. There will be a demand for these later down the road and more rare than the regular colors. Look at how LSB was for the E46 M3! They couldnt stay on the market unless they were thrashed. Just be mentally ready for the attention and comments and the like and you'll be quite alright Good luck!

Anecdotally I've seen the same thing. Dakkar Yellow E36s, Phoenix Yellow E46s, and Laguna Seca Blue E46s have been very difficult to find and they've also commanded a premium.

MG looks great in some pictures but every time I see it on the road I'm disappointed... it just doesn't pop like it should; it looks pretty dull. Maybe the bolder, more aggressive lines of the M cars will make it stand out better.

Go with the YMB it is a spectacular Yellow and looks good with the darker mags

I have just ordered the M3 with Tanzanite Blue, have you looked into this option?

That has been one of the reasons I sticked to YMB
