An M2 needs its "M gill", at least BMW use to think so.

Oh I recall that, but that is old BMW prior to flooding the market with M Performance vehicles that the majority of buyers think they have purchased an actual M car.

At this point they should just early release some legitimate photos. Keep the full launch and specs for Oct 12th.

The new leaked M2 photo thread is almost 30 pages long. Getting a lot of attention, along with a lot of negativity.

This car is begging for cosmetic help. Not to mention flare.

Also just signifies it indeed is a full M car.

Its a part the design of the M brand... like... quad-tip exhaust...

But… prior to the E46 M3 and E60 M5 the side gills did not exist and if the G87 is to be reminiscent of an M car prior to that era then why add them? If we recall there was a lot of discussion that the G87 was going to be boxy and reminiscent of the E30 M3 or at least pay tribute to it.

Which is now coming to non-M cars. It will no longer be exclusive to M cars.

https://www.motor1.com/news/581357/b...st-non-m-cars/

https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/04/21/m...et-quad-pipes/

BTW, Quad tips did not arrive until the 1998 M Roadster. A long list of M cars prior to that did not have quad tips. The M engine and suspension tuning is what primarily made up an M car with the exception being the E30 M3. All the other models were a wolf in sheep’s clothing, which is what the consumer at that time greatly appreciated about a M car. There was little to no visual/cosmetic fluff.

Sadly, what M once represented has become watered down with M Lite vehicles, aka M Performance vehicles that are sold along side true M cars. The majority of consumers do not know the difference and as long as there is an M badge they do not know one from the other. It has only worsened with the recent factory addition of an M badge on the left kidney of M Performance vehicles.

I will say the lighting in the most recent photo does not do the car/color justice. However a more vibrant blue would have been much better in my opinion…

A 718 GTS is probably the direction I will go if the G87 does not pan out. Allocations are extremely difficult to come by though and might not get one prior to EOP.
Hate to break it to you, but 718 GTS allocations are even harder to come by…

100%. I am well aware. “Allocations are extremely difficult to come by though and might not get one prior to EOP.”

I have been informed 18-24 months unless someone(s) back out. I know of someone that recently took delivery of their 718 GTS order. They were in at 18 months.

We're in the same boat! I've been through the same thought process - ultimately the MSRP as built was too close to a GT4 for me to justify though. And don't get me started on those allocations…best I could do was $15k over, most dealers wanted $40k over.

The front has kind of a baja stance, but maybe that's the lighting.

Promising, looks muscular and square. That said, I don’t like the color and most of the leaked pictures. Betting on that it will look menacing in the right color IRL.

Past OG M2 owner here and stalked the F87 for years before it was out same here too.

I'll get a G87 over time. Size wise I though it resolved to be a prefect old school 3 series coupe size car before they started growing so damn much.

For me the pluses.
Almost all of it. I proved tech, S58 (current G82 owner) and hopefully U.K. with a manual.
I love the front! Classic grilles and a very M5 like look to me.

For me the negative.
Terrible launch colour. It's literally Hyundai N signature colour!
After the pics I AM concerned about that rear but in the flesh I guarantee it won't be a game changer.

PS cool thread idea OP love the ofea

The photoshops are promising. Grey white and blue all look good. The high angle of the rear pic make the bumper appear to protrude more than it actually does. New angle makes the car look so much better. Still worried about that rear bumper but the 6MT s58 will make up for it

I think the rear bumper has the diffuser off or spent not too

Still digesting, but not that easy with only 4 pics.

1) Zandvoort Blue, and black wheels just absolutely do not work for me
2) Speaking of wheels, the ride height and sunk in offset (especially at the front) just absolutely does this car no favor
3) Either it's the lighting of the pics, or it's the color ZB, but the rear flares don't seem that obvious somehow. You can tell it's a wide car, but would need a closer to look there.

While I'm not blown away by what I'm seeing, maybe there's still a small chance I'll like it when I'm seeing it in person. I'm envisioning:
- Toronto Red with Cognac interior, with carbon buckets.
- MP rear wing, but regular quad pipes
- Drop and wheels that actually works well with the car, IMO it does wonders for the G80

^that is a lot of what ifs though...
