You don't need to spend $500 on a tune. You're going to need to spend it on a good set of front tires instead.
The Civic Type R is already a formidable track weapon when driven properly. To suggest otherwise is like saying Darth Vader needs a mustache to scare the daylights out of you.

Maybe ramp up your racing budget a few hundred times and get Randy "effin'" Probst (look him up online) to give you a performance driving lesson behind the wheel on a race track of your choice, and let him show you what the CTR is in bone stock config. That CTR would eat an M2 alive despite the M2 being about a ton heavier and spotting the M2 a buck and a half in the power department. The two cars aren't even in the same size and weight class.

Nuf said.

Who is this Randy Probst you speak of? Never heard of him.

Let’s get f’ing real…
Randy would kill it in both cars

The M2 is built for endurance on a track, the Civic wasn’t… Enough said

I love the fact that both cars in the comparison video are similar shades of Blue.

Love the looks of G87 M2 check out the car with M performance parts it compliments FK8 CTR.

Ctr will not match m2 track times even if both cars are driven by Probst. On a small momentum track it can try but even on 1 min Throttle house track it is close to 3 sec behind. Ctr is 1:13.55. When m2 is 1:11.19
Jason and randy recently played with Its and ctr on track there. ThERe was a podcast flying around somewhere. Ctr is a toy compared to m2 - not in the same class. Civic relentlessly understeers and is very difficult to drive above 8/10th on the track but its great street car , m2 is the opposite it comes to life on the track and shines after 8 10th. Where civic is trying to kill you. M2 is making you look like a pro driver on the track. What im saying its the feel of the car thats different too

Selling the 335i not the CTR. Seems frivolous to share my thoughts here but I appreciate you asking.

The levels of powertrain refinement in M2 and CTR is unmatched by rivals.

Thank you BMW and Honda for offering Manual Transmission.

They each have different characteristics and driving dynamics both cars are recommended in an enthusiasts garage.

Good article at car and driver that highlights the civic attributes
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-maintenance/

So what im saying we have to give Honda credit where credit is due

Car is light and feels delightful to throw around
Manual shifter is brilliant
Gearing is short and makes you shift a lot
Most important you can have a lot of fun on the street at legal speeds

Will Ctr/its make me give up the m car? Having both i can defiantly say - no

Hondas Rattles and squeaks and overall flimsy feeling is tough to overcome, axle hop in the wet especially uphill is bad, car behavior tough at the limit.

So in my book m2 still wins even as street car

Thanks for the enlightenment. I'm happy to make you laugh. In my group of friends I am the funny one, actually.

As you can read by my previous post I based my comment off Ring times that were posted where the FL5 CTR was off-pace by just 2 seconds. On a 13mi long track, a tune would be enough to make up that difference.

The Ring time I saw wasn't official, clearly, because apparently BMW rarely does such things. I'm sure the G87 is a Ring monster, all things considered. I would say the CTR may need much more than just front tires, as others have already suggested.

Curious, would you buy either car, and why?

Sad day when a civic is compared to an M car. Last time they compared it to a Porsche SUV, again a nice step up from the last gen M2. The SUV was much more balanced, better brakes and no understeer the M2 had. or still has.

If bmw could give us a manual as good as the one in the CTR this wouldn’t even be a discussion but that rubbery one in every bmw in the last 15 years isn’t special

did anyone else notice how bouncy and tossed around he was in the civic compared to the M2... I have not driven the Civic but would assume from that video its not planted very well at all...

Not sure what his exact suspension setting is as he appears to be in Individual mode. For me, +R suspension can be a bit bouncy on some public roads but from the driver's seat the car always feels very planted. Most of the time I drive with the suspension in Sport. Suspension set to Sport+ in the Hyundai N cars is a lot less tolerable than +R on public roads if you've ever driven any of those cars. Some CTR owners are swapping in the ADS module from the ITS to dial the suspension back a notch as they find even the Comfort setting to be too hardcore. I'm used to an older BMW that handles and rides much worse than the CTR so none of the settings bother me a bit. Probably all depends on what you're accustomed to.

Brand Loyaty runs deep, I was never gonna buy a Golf R and WRX STI loyalists will not buy a CTR and so on …you get the drift

With the G80 I never looked at Mercedes or Audi compareables even if they offered an MT which they don’t.

Competition may do this or that better than my favorite cars but that don’t matter.

I love BMW and Honda.

Is this for real?

Look at track times for the SS 1LE compared to CTR's. Now replace the SS 1LE's with the M2, as they run similar times. The CTR's are not even close! The only type of track that a CTR may compete with a new M2 would be something like Musselman Honda Circuit near Tucson, which is technically a go-kart track.
