24 with ID 8, park up when the car is warm, engine running, open the window or door, sport mode, switch iconic on/off, you can hear the valve moving.

Maybe a stupid question but, what happens if you mute the radio, do you still hear the exhaust?

I have to correct the record here.

I coded ASD off in bimmercode, but the ASD is not actually off until you disable additional ASD settings in expert mode.

I switched ASD completely off today, just drove the car around and heard very few if any burbles, and much less exhaust noise which WAS actually coming from the speakers still.

Anyway, clearly BMW does a pretty good job spoofing the exhaust sounds because I had a hard time telling. I was worried about installing my aftermakret exhaust becuase the car was so lound in sport stock... now I know that was all fake noise.

Do you have the windows down? The car is not loud but it's certainly not quiet either in sport mode. There is a decent amount of noise without being obnoxious in my opinion.

The high was 32 deg today, so no to windows down haha.

I am more referring to the sound inside the cabin. It's not loud at all, I'm sure it's decent outside the car but if I am driving the car I am never outside it.

Are you saying even with ASD coded off and iconic sounds off, there is still fake noise coming through the speakers, or did I misread? Also can iconic sounds be turned off without coding? Still waiting on receiving my 2025 with idrive 8.5 and I am hoping to eliminate all fake noise so that I can work on getting good quality audio in the car.

Iconic sounds is a switch in the infotainment.

Asd is the fake noise through the speakers. You must code to turn off asd, using bimmercode.

Even if you have coded asd completely off, if you turn on iconic sounds then exhaust will have burbles on lift off and supposedly the valve opens more. On stock exhaust you can't tell this really, on aftermarket exhaust it's very noticeable.

Perhaps the quoted lines explain. I have not coded anything out; only turned off iconic sounds. I hear nothing. Car is so quiet. Even in sport there is barely any noticeable sound especially if windows are closed.

Thanks! So it seems on my stock exhaust with iconic sound off and ASD off, I should have a pretty quiet car.

If ASD is not disabled, you still get a ton of sound iconic sounds just adds to it. Did you buy your car new?

Car was purchased new. I am trying to be more aware as I was fooled originally by the iconic sounds. Since this is my first such car, I did not know about the fake sounds. So I got used to them. When I rad on hear that people were turning this off, I was shocked! I turned it off and now the car seems so quiet. Perhaps I need to adjust and then hear the true sounds - if ASD can even be considered true sounds!?

I hear the engine rev, but all the pops and burbles are gone now.

Yeah I only asked in case someone turned them off as a prior owner and you didn't know.

All I can tell you, is that when I coded ASD off in bimmercode, my car got significantly quieter in sport mode. Less exhasut noise, and sport basically sounded exactly like comfort inside the car with the windows up.

From what I've heard though when doing the downpipe + exhaust combo it's too much drone / noise. It's one or the other it seems.

For most people, on most cars, downpipe and aftermarket exhaust is too loud. On my golf R I added a resonated midpipe and that solved the volume. Not a lot of companies offering resonated midpipes on this car but eisenmann does make one.

I have an Eisenmann axle back on order. My experience with the current exhaust i have is that it is too loud valves closed and too quiet valves open.

I won't be getting a downpipe until after the powertrain warranty is expired.

You currently have the Alibaba right? I was thinking of getting the Dinan soon. I also won't be getting downpipe until after warranty is expired. Curious about the midpipe now though.
